Kanye West Cries Front Row At Virgil Abloh’s First Louis Vuitton Show

This most recent Louis Vuitton fashion show at Men’s Paris Fashion Week was a monumental one in terms of the hype building up around the show regarding Virgil Abloh, creator of Off-White, and his first collection as the head artistic director of Louis Vuitton. This was a monumental moment in fashion itself as Virgil is the first African American artistic director of the famous Paris fashion house and one of the few to be a leading influence at the level he is at. What Virgil has been able to accomplish in what seems like just a couple years time from his beginnings with his brand Pyrex Vision to Off-White to his collection with Nike it seems that Virgil has almost reached the pinnacle. To Virgil Abloh though I believe he cares more about just spreading the culture that he was brought up into this industry in.

Virgil Abloh and Kanye West have known each other and have been close creative partners since the early 2000s. Virgil has worked on a lot of different projects with Kanye before ultimately breaking off to step out of Kanye’s shadow, not necessarily creatively but Virgil wanted to make a name for himself. Virgil did this by creating his brand Pyrex Vision back in 2012 which was his first venture into the world of high fashion. Pyrex Vision consisted mostly of screen printing onto Champion blanks and old Ralph Lauren flannels, not exactly revolutionary, but Virgil was able to charge upwards of 500 dollars for the pieces and they would sell. Virgil eventually folded the brand and started Off-White with a crew of Italian streetwear aficionados. Off-White would pick up right where Pyrex Vision left off charging astronomical prices for mostly screen printed streetwear. But Off-White would grow into a Nike collaboration and establish it as one of the most sought-after brands in streetwear today. This would ultimately be Virgil’s foot in the door when it came to breaking into the world of high fashion houses like Louis Vuitton.

Now during Men’s Paris Fashion Week everyone patiently waiting to see what Virgil would do with his introductory show as the artistic director of Louis Vuitton. Virgil showcased to the world and to everyone in attendance a beautiful gradient painted pavement runway outdoors in a garden in Paris. Virgil really delivered when it came to the overall presentation of the environment around the garments. But the garments and accessories were nothing like Louis Vuitton has ever had before from transparent gradient rainbow luggage to ceramic white chains draped over the models and as straps for the luggage. After having various streetwear icons and celebrities from the likes of Kid Cudi, Playboi Carti, Blondey McCoy and A$AP Nast you can really tell that this show was all about the culture that Virgil Abloh came from. That is why Kanye, seated front row, when Virgil walked out at the end got so emotional. Kanye was able to see one of his very close friends and collaborators not only ascend to the pinnacle of fashion for African Americans today but was able to be a part of it with his new album being played during the show. Kanye has been skeptical of Virgil leaving his side and branching out in becoming one of today’s fashion moguls but he’s finally been able to come to terms with it in this most recent embrace at the end of Virgil’s very first show as the artistic director of Louis Vuitton.

RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan on the Return of Wu-Wear

When it comes to the world of fashion music is one of the biggest influences when it comes not just to people’s personal style but for the direction, fashion is moving in. One of the largest impacts that music has had on fashion was the rise of hip-hop. You can go all the way back to rappers like Slick Rick and Big Daddy popularizing over the top gold chains that were literally things only your favorite rappers could wear to groups like the Wu-Tang Clan popularizing Clarks Wallabees and Ralph Lauren’s Polo Snow Beach collection. Groups like the Wu-Tang Clan didn’t start dressing like this because of their new found money from rising through the ranks of the music industry they dressed like that because it was how they always dressed. There is something different in terms of the connection between the musician and his audience when the person listening is able to reflect how they connect with the culture. They are able to portray this in what they wear and when it is easily attainable for the listener that bond grows even stronger.

There were band tees dating back to the late 60s and early 70s that allowed a fan of a certain musical group or act to show their friends that they attending a show or went to a certain stop on the tour, but nothing that just showed that they were down with the group and the movement they were starting. Wu-Wear, the clothing line started by RZA and many other members of the Wu-Tang Clan, revolutionized this idea and perfected it in a way that would inspire many other rappers and groups to follow suit. Wu-Wear was started in 1995 after the success of the Wu-Tang Clan’s debut album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). The clothing line was carried at stores all over the country and was a huge source of income for the entire Wu-Tang Clan, even allowing them to open their own separate retail locations in New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Norfolk. Wu-Wear allowed the fans of the Wu-Tang Clan and just those that followed street fashion and street culture to get down with the Wu-Tang Clan’s movement and show their support for the group out of Staten Island. Although Wu-Wear folded in 2008 it has left a huge impact on the culture surrounding hip-hop designed and inspired clothing lines.

Today with the resurgence of 90’s hip-hop culture into the mainstream it’s only right for the return of Wu-Wear but marketed in a way that nobody would’ve expected, it’s being promoted through an event at Barney’s. The fact that Wu-Wear is coming back in a fresh new way at Barney’s, with updated designs and the focus of not just promoting the group but being on trend while still being able to respect its origins is incredible. This just goes to show you that the rich culture associated with hip-hop and rap music has ascended more than just music. Hip-hop today is regarded as one of if not the most popular genre of music today and it shows with everything around us. Barney’s which is a luxury department store that no one, not even RZA, would’ve imagined his Wu-Wear line rolling out a ten-piece collection exclusively for them is just another mark of how hip-hop music and fashion today really go hand in hand. This gives many older hip-hop heads a chance to reminisce on the early days of the Wu-Tang Clan and can cop and rock a piece of the new Wu-Wear while still allowing the younger generation to get introduced to the Wu-Tang Clan in a whole new way.

‘Black Panther’ premiere filled with stars and standout outfits

The “Black Panther” cast and attendants of the premiere stuck with the theme of the movie and dressed up as characters of the fictional nation of Wakanda. The attendees kept with the “royal attire” theme and showed up on the purple carpet in a massive display of regal, African-inspired outfits.

Taking inspiration from the film’s costumes (which were all designed by Oscar-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter), Lupita Nyong’o channeled her character, Nakia, while wearing a purple, custom-made Atelier Versace chiffon gown which had a gold metal hardware harness that looked like armor. Chadwick Boseman, who plays the Wakandan ruler T’Challa, looked the part in a black and gold blazer made by Emporio Armani.

Letitia Wright plays Princess Shuri. Her character interpretation came in the form of a black-and-white embroidered Bibhu Mohapatra gown, which stylist Ade Samual helped pick.

“We talked about what the movie meant and how strong it was and wanted to give that same powerful feel to Letitia’s look on the red carpet,” said the stylist, who took inspiration from her own Nigerian roots while researching the theme before landing on the ethereal, embellished number for Wright. “Letitia plays such a riveting character and she brings a light to the role. Keeping her fresh and young was the idea.”

The cast weren’t the only people dressing for the occasion. Yara Shahidi wore a youthful, white Etro gown and Christian Louboutin sandals, while British-Nigerian actor David Oyelowo wore a traditional dashiki. “Insecure’s” Issa Rae showed out for the occasion in a pleated white Rosie Assoulin dress with rainbow-colored panels, paired with Giuseppe Zanotti metallic shoes.

Even actor and musician Janelle Monáe worked with stylist Alexandra Mandelkorn to put her own spin to the theme while maintaining her own persona.  “Something black and white, but also something sculptural and avant-garde that felt very regal,” explains Mandelkorn. She then went with a billowing skirt paired with a top featuring two-tone sleeves. Monáe finished the look with an Erickson Beamon tribal choker and a traditional black kufi cap filled with gold embroidery.

“It looks like a crown,” Mandelkorn said. “It was very fitting for the theme.”

Men will wear all black to Golden Globes

There has been news that several prominent male performers, such as Dwayne The Rock Johnson, will be joining the women-led protest against sexual misconduct that has been showing up recently in news, especially in Hollywood. The men plan to show support by wearing all black to the 2018 Golden Globe Awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Jan. 7.

Entertainment Weekly reported, celebrity stylist Ilaria Urbinati wrote on Instagram that all of her clients would be wearing the all black attire this year:

“Because everyone keeps asking me… YES, the men WILL be standing in solidarity with women on this wearing-all-black movement to protest against gender inequality at this year’s Golden Globes. At least ALL MY GUYS will be. Safe to say this may not be the right time to choose to be the odd man out here… just sayin…”

Urbinati is the stylist for prominent male stars such as Tom Hiddleston, Garret Hedlund, Armie Hammer and many others– even The Rock. Stylist Michael Fisher, who dresses Hugh Jackman and Sam Rockwell, told Hollywood Reporter that men wearing black is “going to be an inevitable thing out of solidarity. I think the majority of men are going go safe in a black suit with a white shirt so no one’s going to look the odd man out.”

While most actors, critics and fans are embracing the stand on both sides, the movement has had its criticism.  Rose McGowan put out a hostile tweet towards Streep and other actors on Dec. 17 which has now been deleted.

“Actresses, like Meryl Streep, who happily worked for The Pig Monster, are wearing black @GoldenGlobes in a silent protest,” she wrote. “YOUR SILENCE is THE problem. You’ll accept a fake award breathlessly & affect no real change. I despise your hypocrisy.” She added, “Maybe you should all wear Marchesa.”

Marchesa is the brand run and designed by Georgina Chapman, former spouse of producer Harvey Weinstein.

McGowan deleted her tweet and later sent out another twitter message.

“The Marchesa line was beneath me and I’m sorry for that,” she later wrote. “There is no map for this road I’m on, I will fuck up. Peace be with you, go with Goddess.”

Future Hip Hop Star Jirias Releases New Single, “Box Me In”

With every year that passes it seems there are multitudes upon multitudes of new artists popping up, doing their best to receive recognition for their skills and ideas, so much so that it often becomes extremely difficult to find artists hidden in the rough, there is just too much white noise obscuring us from finding true talent. That is where we come in, we dive into the sea of new artists to emerge with the fresh catch of the day, and today that is Jirias with his latest released song, Box Me In.

Jirias is a unique example of modern day hip-hop; eschewing the “club banger” beats and overplayed samples in favor of creating a sound profile that features both classic motifs interposed with modern sensibilities. Hailing from New Jersey and wearing his inspirations on his sleeve, Jirias is an artist to keep an eye on.

Box Me In’s four-minute and sixteen-second runtime tells you right off the bat that Jirias isn’t going for some bubble gum two-minute long club affair. Featuring an upbeat instrumental backing that inspires the vision of driving a fast car at night through an empty city. In fact, Jirias’ use of imagery continues to his lyrics as well, with many scenes playing out through his use of wordplay and storytelling.

Confidence is another major aspect we here like about Box Me In. Jirias has an almost palpable swagger on display; he just positively exudes star qualities in his flows and deliveries, he makes you believe every word he says, it doesn’t simply feel like he is reading off a sheet of paper or trying to emulate another artist, he is simply Jirias being Jirias, and it is a breath of fresh air in a stagnate industry desperately in need of something new.

Jirias is a favorite among us here, and we forsee big, big things for his future. To hear more from Jirias, check out his Soundcloud for his latest releases, and the Spotify link below to listen to his latest album relase, Castle:

GQ editor Dylan Jones criticizes cover star

GQ editor Dylan Jones has criticized the newest issue cover star, Jeremy Corbyn. Jeremy Corbyn is the leader of the labour party in the England.

Dylan Jones told BBC news that Corbyn’s photoshoot was “as difficult as shooting any Hollywood celebrity”. Jones has claimed that despite the Labour leader’s “rock star persona” he was “underwhelming” in person.

The editor was then faced with backlash on Twitter with various Corbyn supporters and others accusing Jones of being politically bias. Jones in the past has written about his support for the Conservatives and was the author of “Cameron on Cameron” which was a series of interviews with the former Tory leader before he then went on to become to Prime Minister in 2010.

Corbyn’s former spokesman Matt Zarb-Cousin said Jones had not been in the room for the interview and said the editor’s political views were “well known”.

One Twitter user said, “might have actually bought the @BritishGQ for the first time in a blue moon for the Corbyn feature but the cheap takedown attempt by Tory boy editor Dylan Jones has convinced me to keep my money.”

According to Jones the Labour leader was “adamant” that he would wear a Marks and Spencer suit for the photo shoot. In an interview with BBC Radio 4’s Today program, Jones said, “The actual shoot itself was quite tortuous. It was as difficult as shooting any Hollywood celebrity.”

“We’ve shot many politicians for our cover … but never have we encountered such a ring. Obviously [Labour director of communications] Seumas Milne and his crew are very particular gate-keepers.

“They didn’t really seem to understand the process at all, didn’t understand (a) that he would have to be photographed in the first place (b) that he would need to be presentable or that he couldn’t just turn up in his anorak.

“When he actually turned up for the shoot it was almost like he was being pushed around like a grandpa for the family Christmas photograph. He wasn’t particularly aware of what was going on. But we’re very pleased with what we ended up with.”

Nonetheless, Corbyn joins David Cameron and Boris Johnson on the list of politicians to feature on the cover of men’s “fashion and style” magazine of GQ.

When asked whether he had a falling out with Corbyn’s team, Jones said: “We haven’t fallen out with anyone, we are just describing the process of what we went through to get the cover, which I found very intriguing.”

GQ Creative Director Jim Moore stepping down

Jim Moore, the longstanding editor for GQ, will be transitioning into the role of creative director r-at-large following a long series of departures from the Condé Nast men’s title. The longtime Condé Nast editor is finally stepping away from the legacy publisher.

GQ’s creative director Jim Moore established the magazine as being the go-to style guide for American men for over four decades. He held the creative director position since 1998. Will Welch, who is the editor-in-chief of GQ’s quarterly, will be taking over in January of 2018.

Just like Vogue’s creative director, Grace Coddington, reduced her role at the magazine in January 2016 while still being able to maintain an office and a large commitment to the publisher, Moore will take the title of creative director-at-large and will still be an active contributor to the magazine’s pages and some projects. The details of Moore’s future contract is still being under discussion.

“[Editor-in-chief Jim Nelson] has been a big advocate for me, so he wants me around and he wants my hand on every issue going forward,” Moore tells Business of Fashion, explaining that the difference will now be that his involvement will vary from project to project. “One of my favorite things is being an ambassador for the magazine. That’s a really important part of what I want to continue, the video series — teaching is really important for me.”

At Condé Nast, the responsibilities of the creative director-at-large role will vary from title to title. At the same time, the publication will be able to cut costs as the print industry continues to struggle to adapt to a more digitally focused media environment. This past November, Condé Nast announced that GQ would reduce its issues from 12 to 11 and lay off around 80 people across the company. During this cost cut, GQ lost high profile positions in the Condé Nast department, including the executive digital director and fashion director.

Moore says the new arrangement worked for him and GQ. ““I’m sure when you get slightly pushed out of the nest, it’s a wobbly feeling — especially for me, it’s been my life for four decades,” he said. “I’m really excited about staying connected to this but looking out there for other projects.”

“I don’t know any one person who’s had more effect on the way men dress in America,” says Nelson. “Jim’s is an almost mythic influence. When we threw an anniversary party several years back where Kanye West performed live on stage, even Kanye rapped about the talent and legend of Jim Moore.”

Men’s fashion at Heineken Lagos Fashion Week

The Heineken Sponsored, Lagos Fashion and Design week this year was astounding and riveting. It was themed “Shaping Fashion’s Future” and it took place at Eko Atlantic, Lagos.

The show absolutely put the African fashion industry in a standstill with how the fashion showcases showed plenty of new and fresh collections. The fashion shows were met with bigger crowds than normal and they came with an even bigger appetite for fashion. Although there was a diverse collection for men’s fashion, there were a couple collections that didn’t quite sit right with the crowd. Maxivive’s menswear and Clan’s class collections had some remarkable pieces that more than likely will never go out of style.

Even with the clothes setting off fireworks, the runway was also focused on pageantry and entertaining the crowd. Designer Mai Atafo combined every factor together during his collection. His designs were fun, versatile, and just plain amazing, but the closing dance was arguably the best part. The People of color collection was by far the boldest. It was filled with daring and beautiful colors. Overall with this collection there was a very playful and laid-back vibe.

The men’s collection was more so a mix and match type of fashion show, showing the audience some ideas on the wearability and styling options for each outfit.  Fashion overall has evolved into a new era where accessories are everything. A lot of the models wore sandals, homegrown trainers like xeexs, and a variety of them were showing off long beaded necklaces over their outfits.

The shoes from the attendees also were making a statement of their own. The shoes worn really showed off the personality of the owner. Slips on were running amok and the more fashionable men paired them with bold looks.

Noble Igwe, Denrele Edun, and Denola Grey really displayed their ‘bad boy’ side of fashion. The Sound Sultan, Enyinaya Nwigwe, Bovi, Bryan Okwara, Yomi Casuals all showed up with class, with little or no persona attached to their plain but outstanding outfits.

What followed the fashion show was also just as spectacular. The Heineken ‘Live Your Music’ party was the after party for the Lagos Fashion and Design Week.  The party kicked off with Dj Big N and Dj Neptune playing the best hits from Nigeria’s biggest artist to really set the tone for a really extravagant night of music.

Do-2d-tun had a special feature that night called the ‘takeover’ session. This special segment provided the guests an opportunity to ‘live their music’ as the crowd had the chance to vote for their favorite songs through the Heineken ‘Live Your Music’ wristbands they wore.  The songs with the highest votes were played in real time for the Dj set. The headliner of this amazing music event was none other than Jidenna. Jidenna played all his hits like ‘Classic Man, ‘Little Bit More’, ‘Particular’, and even premiered his newest single ‘Boomerang’.

Tyler the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw brings out the best flower child vibes

Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival – Day 2 Link in bio

A post shared by Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival (@campfloggnaw) on

Tyler the Creator has started his sixth annual Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival this past weekend and it has brought out the best fashion for the flower child era. The carnival takes at Exposition Park in southern Los Angeles.

Thanks to the two-day events mixed lineup including the likes of, Migos, Lana Del Rey, Kelela, and Roy Ayers, the festival has attracted people from all kinds of spectrums. One thing was for sure, the event had the same style as past years. The event still brought people with bold, bright, and brash clothes and accessories.  Concertgoers were decked out in the usual flower headbands, tie-dye t-shirts and more.

In a recent article on vogue.com they went around the event and interviewed some of the goers on what they thought about the new flower child era. In this article, we took some of the best quotes to show those who are still curious about the new trend and event itself.

Malcolm Squire, fermentation engineering lab tech

“I grew up in Iowa and I’m currently living in South San Francisco. I moved out there about three years ago. I like it up there, it’s a very accepting place to live. Coming out there and seeing people be so open with their daily style—I appreciate all of the diversity. I actually take photos, too. One of the things I like to do on my commute is to take photos with a disposable camera. You just get so many good ideas from seeing how other people dress. I feel like the concept of the flower child has definitely evolved. It’s definitely not what it was back then”.

TyJaye Capell, musician

“Green is definitely one of my favorite colors. Even Tyler said it, this color feels lucky. I feel like a fucking leprechaun when I wear green all the time. Tyler encourages people wearing bright colors, passing around love and joy. Without him, I know most of these kids wouldn’t be out here. There aren’t many artists who promote just being yourself. Not even afraid to be homosexual. Kids have that outlet. Tyler is that person. Through him, they can bond together. Tyler is just as important as Kanye was the generation before”.

Mohammed, student at University of San Francisco

“I’m originally from Saudi Arabia. I go to school at the University of San Francisco. I’ve been in California for about a year. The style in Saudi Arabia is pretty conservative. Usually, boys wear a thobe—a long all-white or all-black dress for boys. Since I’ve been here, I’ve gotten to embrace color in my personal style. I have more freedom. I can wear earrings. They’re not really allowed in Saudi Arabia, but here, I can do me”.

As you can tell from these excerpts, Tyler the Creator and his colorful carnival has given many people from different areas of society to express themselves in their own unique way. Tyler even incorporates the flower child trend in his new collaboration with Converse called Golf Le Fleur*.

Wearing a bold color or design button down shows great quality and resembles a modern feel. Bold and saturated coloring allows you to become more noticeable. Key advice to this wardrobe tip is that a tie is not always necessary due to the print, color, or design that you are wearing. This approach allows you to come off in a more modest way. The best colors to wear to try the saturated color scheme would be greys, light blues, bright greens, and other jewel tones. Lastly, the trick that is most subtle is the contrast collar shirt approach. This fashion trend is best known from the notorious Karl Lagerfeld. Music Spotlight Highlight: Chris Stylez, R&B Sensation

How do you describe the future of R&B music, and music in general, in just two words? That is easy: Chris Stylez. A native of Ottawa, but based out of New York City, Chris Stylez is a name you will soon become very familiar with, if you haven’t already, that is.

Rocketing up the ranks as a rare triple threat talent – a singer/songwriter/producer – Chris Stylez made his break by becoming a Vine superstar, collecting over 50 million loops of his songs through the popular service. He has quickly found himself touring around the world based on the fruits of his hard work and dedication.

But Chris Stylez hasn’t let his success affect him, he manages to stay humble in the face of mainstream popularity:

“I’m thankful everyday to be able to do this [music] full-time, I have friends who have struggled to maintain through the high’s and low’s of this music business, so for that, I stay humble and appreciative day after day, that I’m still here.”

Chris Stylez

When asked about how he approaches songwriting and music videos in regards to his song, “Who Is” (linked below), Chris Styles had the following to say:

“To appreciate this record is to open yourself up to uncomfortable conversation, I wanted to keep the minimalistic approach of the music consistent in the visuals. This is about more than the physical aspect of sex; it’s about the complex emotions involved.”

In her speech, she joked about her weight, beauty magazines in general, as well as the other women who were honored that night. Of course, in typical “Amy Schumer Humor,” the jokes were raunchy, and she ended her speech saying,

“I feel like I’ve burned all the bridges possible.”

Her latest project is the movie Trainwreck, which she is the lead actress in, and she also wrote the film.

To promote the film and the magazines, GQ and Glamour, in which she is on the cover, Amy was a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. This episode is one for the books, making Jimmy and the audience laugh all the way through her appearance.

The funniest part of her appearance is when she is explaining how she ‘sexted’ Katie Couric’s husband:

The comedienne goes on to explain how she feels about actor Bradley Cooper:

Jimmy and Amy end with an emotional interview that you do not want to miss:

Amy had one of the funniest guest appearances on The Tonight Show. She has definitely proven that women are funny and can make it in an industry that is predominantly male.

If you haven’t seen the trailer for her new movie Trainwreck, you definitely need to check it out. Or, go watch the film which is in theaters July 17.

Olympic Torch Carried By Bruce Jenner Up For Auction

The torch carried by Bruce Jenner through Lake Tahoe, Nevada for the 1984 Summer Olympics is now for auction. This is the first memorabilia to be put up for auction since Bruce Jenner made the transition to Caitlyn Jenner.

The torch is 24 inches long and has a brass finish with a leather handle. It will be auctioned on July 30, 2015 by Heritage Auctions at their Platinum Night Sports Auction held in Chicago. The seller, Bob Lorsch, is a philanthropist and entrepreneur from Los Angeles, California. Lorsch was the one who made the arrangements for Jenner to participate in the Tahoe leg of the torch relay.

Chris Ivy, Heritage’s director of sports auctions, believes the torch symbolizes much more than just athleticism and hints that it is a symbol of inclusiveness for the LBGT community. He also adds on Jenner’s ability to have both strong masculinity and femininity.

“This torch serves as a wonderful symbol that masculinity and femininity are not mutually exclusive. The decathlon has long been considered the ultimate athletic proving ground. Jenner has played both gender roles masterfully.”

In addition, Lorsch’s idea of what the torch symbolizes is similar to Ivy’s.

“… Never realizing that we would be creating what is truly a piece of history that originated as a piece of sports history, then evolved as a piece of entertainment history through the Kardashian legacy and becoming a cultural phenomenon through the transition to Caitlyn.”

This is the first major piece of Jenner memorabilia to ever be put on the auction block. With that being said, the torch is expected to go for at least $20,000.

NBC Fires Trump: Could this be the End for The Donald?

Donald Trump was fired by NBC on Monday following repeated instances of racist rhetoric concerning immigration policy. This announcement followed Univision’s lead when the lesser known broadcasting company cut ties with Trump last Thursday.

NBC’s move followed a petition on Change.org that collected more than 218,000 signatures imploring the company to cut ties. Additionally, the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda and 39 other Latino advocacy organizations asked NBC to terminate their contract with the real estate mogul.

Trump has repeatedly used racially charged rhetoric when addressing the topic of immigration throughout his presidential campaign. During his announcement, Trump asserted that Mexicans are, “bringing drugs, they’re brining crime, theyre rapists and some, I assume, are good people.” Along this line of thinking, his solution is to build a “really, really big wall” spanning the southern border that would be financed by the Mexican government.

To avoid a fiasco, NBC denounced Trump’s comments. “At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values.” In the interest of preserving the successful franchise Trump helped build, the broadcasting conglomerate is exploring ways to air “Celebrity Apprentice” without the show’s cash cow. However, the future of “The Apprentice” is unclear as the show is on hiatus.

In the announcement, it was also revealed that NBC will no longer air the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants as the two programs were cosponsored by the network and Trump.

Trump’s response to the news was fierce. In his opinion, “NBC is weak, and like everybody else is trying to be politically correct. That is why our country is in serious trouble.” Trump was also flummoxed by the decision in the wake of NBC’s announcement that it would retain Brian Williams, “They will stand behind lying Brian Williams, but won’t stand behind people that tell it like it is, as unpleasant as that may be,” he said.

Trump continued, “When I come out with a strong immigration stance, and I’m very strong on borders and I’m very strong on crime, that maybe I’ll lose NBC along the way.” After a campaign speech to civic leaders in Chicago, Trump said, “Whatever they want to do is ok with me.”

That’s simply not true though. Trump has already announced his intention to sue Univision for not airing either pageant. He also said that he is considering suing NBC.

To this point, Trump has believed himself to be infallible and untouchable. Trump has painted himself as the ultimate truth-teller, but he should probably listen to the truth first. The “truths” that he speaks are racist and factually incorrect. And unfortunately, a truth he will never learn is that not all publicity is good.

Most assumed his bid for 2016 was simply a publicity stunt designed to attract more attention with the byproducts of increased ratings and providing sustenance for his oversized ego. And while Trump may be second in New Hampshire polls at the moment, his odds of winning the Republican nomination are the lowest in American history.

Therefore Trump’s plan has clearly backfired. Instead of increasing ratings for his television shows, he lost them all together. Instead of furthering his views and agendas, he has made a mockery of them. And instead of becoming president, he has threatened the security of his brand. Could NBC’s announcement be the death of Donald Trump? Only time will tell.

Best Dressed Bond Villains

My love affair with the international man of mystery started with GoldenEye. Enjoying replays of the movie and basement matches on the N64, this infatuation continued throughout college where I spent hours watching every Bond film from Dr. No to Skyfall. And in every film, Bond’s mannerisms and suits were a common sight. But, to the pimple faced pre-20s self it was just another star in a suit. It was the car chase scenes and fist fights in lethal situations that tickled my fancy, the rest was irrelevant.

But, spending time in the fashion industry changes you. Your taste and eye for the finer side of men’s fashion turns your attention to the outfits the character’s wear.

While re-watching some of the more memorable movies in the Bond lineup, I turned my attention away from Bond and took a look at what the baddies wore. My research resulted in a collection of villains with a variety of selective and rather dynamic outfits that added that extra bit of menace. Some of the villains’ outfits were colorful and unassuming and others were dark and forceful. And this attraction for evil outfits started with the most pleasant yet menacing baddie of them all, Tiago Rodriguez; better known as Raol Silva.

Silva
Played by Javier Bardem in the most recent Bond film, Skyfall, Silva is a heavily damaged ex-Mi6 agent with a taste for revenge. Best known for his sinister monologues and conversations with Bond and M, Silva’s getups compliment his blond hair. In the server room scene where Bond is tied to a chair, he is sporting a brown checkered shirt worn under a solid brown vest, matching pants and brown shoes. To complete the look, he wears a khaki coat over it all. The coat has sloping shoulders, two buttons in the front and four buttons on the sleeves; providing a modern look for a modern villain.

Le Chiffre
Next on the list of best dressed villains is the scared, poker face Le Chiffre, played by Mads Mikkelsen in the movie Casino Royale. He is usually seen in a black shirt and black suit; fitting of his intimidating and sinister appearance throughout the film. The look is rather simple and devoid of any flair or color, but it deserves high marks for how well it emphasizes his outward appearance.

Francisco Scaramanga
Made famous by Christopher Lee in the film Man with the Golden Gun, Scaramanga plays an high-priced assassin with a love for cool, southern outfits. Sporting a calm demeanor, his white suit seen throughout the film seems a bit dated. It has three buttons in the front (all buttoned), a shorter and wider lapel, loose sleeves and is longer than most coats. Even though the look may be tacky, it adds that extra bit of flair and swagger to Lee’s character.

Franz Sanchez
Seen in the film License to Kill, Sanchez (Robert Davi), is a leader of a powerful drug cartel with a strong grip on the fictional Republic of Isthmus. Reminiscent of Al Pacino’s character in Scarface, this cigar smoking drug lord is seen wearing light summer colors. White and light navy suits are common in Sanchez’s wardrobe. His light colored outfits and smooth mannerisms make him the perfect villain from South America.

Dr. Julius No
The first villain in the Bond series, Dr. Julius No is part of the mysterious group known as Spectre. Portrayed by Joesph Wiseman, he is often seen wearing a white Mandarin shirt and matching coat. Born from German and Chinese parents, the Mandarin outfit plays a key part in showcasing the Chinese side of his two part ethnicity. His hands crossed behind his back, Dr. No, along with his Mandarin suit, gives the appearance that he is wise beyond his years.

Tupac Inspired Broadway Musical “Holler If Ya Hear Me” Closed!

The hip hop infused broadway musical “Holler If Ya hear Me,” delivered not only a love story but realistic emotions of the streets to Broadway.

Although, some were very critical of the use of Tupac’s music and lyrics, others seemed to embrace the show and Tupac’s more poetic side. Sad to say, the production’s last show was July 20th. So if you didn’t get a chance to see if, you probably missed out on a gem.

On opening night, Broadway.com interviewed the cast, director and couple celebs after the performance. One of the interviewees was in fact Tupac’s brother, Mopreme Shakur. He briefly shed some light that he and the late rapper were well involved in the arts at a young age.

Rolling Stone writer, Jason Newman, grasped some insight from cast member, Saul Williams, on why the production didn’t last long.

Williams said, “One of our producers came in really angry because he had spoken to one of the TKTS people [who man Broadway ticket-selling booths] — not saying she was a producer — and asked them, “What about Holler? Should I see that?” And the response of the person who is supposed to guide tourists to plays stated that ‘It’s a bit of a downer. It’s not necessarily as fun as’ whatever other play they mentioned.”

Click Here for the full article.

Furthermore, he led into a comment that Harry Belafonte told him after the show, expressing that “you took an afrocentric-themed play and placed it on a eurocentric stage. The problems you’ll face are larger than you think.”

Is the reason for the production closing early deeper than just financial issues?

tupac_holler_fashionmr_003(via essence)

Overall, cast members emphasized on the shows huge success inside the theatre. With standing ovations after every performance; a crowd sing-a-long to “California Love” had the atmosphere grooving. The talented cast seemed to have had enjoyed the experience while it lasted.

More importantly, to even have Tupac’s work be brought so far from a lyrical aspect to an actual live show is something worth noting down as another accomplishment of Hip-Hop.

Cultural Appreciation, Fashion and Music with Solange Knowles

Cultural appreciation is frequently exhausted through media. Rather it is through a simple tweet, an art piece or a visual for a music video, culture is everywhere. A case in point of cultural appreciation is an artist’s expression shown through music. Solange’s hit song “Losing You is a funky and vibrant song with an inimitable visual.

Produced by Dev Hynes and Solange, the song originally released on October 2, 2012 off of her EP True and grabbed headlines and the attention of many. Coming in at No. 22 on the UK Indie charts, the public loved her sound. Solange mentions with an interview with the South African Sunday Times that the influences of the song are from the 80’s and African percussion instruments. It is indeed a song of Rhythm and Blues also with a dash of electronic wave.

The visual of “Losing You” was directed by Melina Matsoukas; director of Grammy Award Winner “We Found Love” by Rihanna. Matsoukas’s resume is pretty dope, filled with projection done like Ne-Yo’s “Because of You,” Snoop Dogg’s “Sensual Seduction”, and many videos for Solange’s older sister Beyoncé. Did you see the On the Run Tour Promo video yet? Yes? It was done by Matsoukas herself.

Moreover, the video was directed in the township of Langa in Cape Town, South Africa. It was inspired by Italian Photographer Daniele Tamagni’s book Gentleman of Bacongo.  The book is filled with photos from Le Sape Society, also known as Society for the Advancement of People’s Elegance. The VIBE Vixen mentions that she was styled by Ty Hunter and selected by Elle South Africa fashion director Asanda Sizaniwas. Solange wears bright colors and exciting patterns by Suno, KenzoDiane von Fürstenberg, Opening Ceremony, and J. Crew in the visual.

The video is a combination of fashion and cultural tributes to African culture and also to correlate to the lyrics of her song. The words express someone who is realizing they are losing their lover. She sings “Tell me the truth boy am I losing you for good, We used to kiss all night but now there’s just no fuse, I don’t know why I fight it, clearly we are through.”

Her awkward placement in the video gives viewers the vibe of when something is going wrong with your love life and your feelings start seeping through your pores. You become still, you become out of touch with reality but yet you yearn for someone to notice you. She sings blankly in the camera while people move around her not realizing she is standing there or yet alone dancing in their work places. She identified herself not as Beyoncé’s younger sister, but a woman who walks to the beat of her own drum. She has received positive feedback from MTV’s Buzz Worthy Blog, where its mention only Solange could pull off this style.

Observe and absorb the cultural appreciation of Solange’s creation.

If you didn’t get the chance witness the three J’s come to Brooklyn, then you missed out on history. The goal for Brooklyn Bodega was to have the three J’s come to Brooklyn; J.Cole, Jay Electronica, and Jay-Z. With hashtag #WEMADEIT trending on Facebook and twitter, performances struck the BHF online streaming so hard, it crashed the network. Thanks to technology, you can actually view the performances online.

Getting rapper Jay Elec wasn’t easy, but likes it’s said, patience is a virtue. “Eventually conversations with Jay Elec started up again and while he rejected offers from Coachella, Governor’s Ball, Bonaroo and others he accepted our offer.” said on an updated post of the BHF on their website. The rapper came through with special guests Mac Miller, J. Cole, Talib Kweli and The Boss, Jay-z. Jay and Jay-z even shared a moment when Jay-z takes off his NGE Chain and put it around Jay Elec’s neck.

Athletes gone wild! Or so it looks like with this years ESPN’s Body Issue. Starting in 2009, ESPN decided to combat the decline of their subscribers and release something fresh and new, and what’s better than racy photos of some of the worlds most elite athletes. After the release of the original issue, featuring many famous athletes like Lolo Jones, Ryan Lochte, and Manny Pacquiao, ESPN tried to rival the readership of Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Edition. The strategy was quite the success with readership up 35% giving the company a pretty fair profit and giving these sometimes misrepresented athletes a very new appeal to the public. JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE’S WORLD TOUR: ALL DRESSED UP IN NEIL BARRETT

Pop star Justin Timberlake has teamed up with Milan-based English-bred designer, Neil Barrett to create a new wardrobe to kick off the second leg of his 20/20 Experience World Tour. The designer helped create new costumes for the singer himself, his band, and his dancers. The line reflects what both Barrett and Timberlake embody—modern cuts and sleek, tailored fits that combine elements from both informal street wear and formalwear. Barrett is known for his dark, modern cuts and lines, and this signature look is seen in JT’s tour collection.

Timberlake has donned Barrett’s designs in various music videos, such as “4 Minutes” by Madonna and his own “Take Back The Night.” He’s also sported the designer’s looks during his Legends of Summer 2013 Tour and at the 2013 MTV VMA’s. He rocked the new look on May 23 at his Abu Dhabi show at the Du Arena. JT looked positively handsome, simple and sleek in his various short sleeve patterned button downs and slouchy black pants. The singer even wore—and pulled off– a stylish fedora. Damn! The star looks sexy in just about everything, and this new collection is no exception. View few images of JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE’S WORLD TOUR: ALL DRESSED UP IN NEIL BARRETT !

Divorce can freeze Clippers Sale!

In another twist of the Clippers saga, which is seeming more and more like a reality TV drama, than an actual horrific event now might feature a season of divorce court. That is because according to Shelly Sterling the wife of Donald Sterling, the man caught on a tape recorded using racial slurs and comments and was banned from the NBA for life even though he owns the LA Clippers who have just been eliminated from playoff contention by the Oklahoma City Thunder.

When the NBA Commissioner Adam Silver banned Donald Sterling for life, and publicly stated that he wants the team sold, even though he personally has no actual authority to sell the team the outcry started. How fast will it sell, and who will buy the team? But now a new wrench is being thrown into this plan.

Because both Donald Sterling and wife Shelly Sterling own the team, Shelly is arguing that she wants to and should be allowed to keep her 50% portion of the franchise, and will not be selling. The major problem that may result is this: if Shelly Sterling officially files for a divorce which she stated to Barbara Walters that she eventually will, and that she already signed the papers, just didn’t file them yet it could end up tying up the LA Clippers in a divorce settlement which can freeze any transaction for potentially years to come. So not so fast NBA. This move is considered by many to be the nuclear threat of the entire situation. One that can railroad any planned outcome and definitely has an effect on the potential suitors that want to buy the team.

Who wants to buy a 50% stake in a franchise that is frozen in a divorce settlement? So the ball is in Shelly Sterling’s court. She has the detonation codes to this whole scenario and all she has to do is walk into court and file the divorce papers. The sale of the team will then be frozen until a settlement is reached. But since she hasn’t actually filed the papers yet, there might be some hope of a quick resolution after all. Is it an empty threat to the NBA or a play to help her ownership stake? Either way, she just might be the one holding all the cards. The only potential saving grace is that “under the NBA Constitution, if a controlling owner’s interest is terminated by a 3/4 vote, all other team owners’ interests are automatically terminated as well,” according to a statement from NBA spokesman Mike Bass. Let’s hope this rule applies in our court system as well.

2014 Time 100 Gala: #1 was a no show!

This year Time magazine again had its annual Time 100 Gala. Where 100 of the world’s most influential people are invited to attend and just talk and joke and laugh amongst themselves for a brief time. Beyoncé was named Time’s most influential person on the year, but was a no show at the ceremony.

Among the people that did show up for the star studded event were Seth Myers, Amy Adams, Jenji Kohan who is the creator and writer of “Orange is the new Black” on Netflix. Barbara Walters, Martha Stewart and Neil deGrasse Tyson, who is an astrophysicist and currently hosts “Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey.”

Performing was Pharrell Williams and Seth Myers who jokingly said that after looking at the list of the Top 100 “he is at best mid to high 90’s on the list.” Seth Myers also joked that “Dr. John Kovac is here tonight, that’s right, you and I are on the same list buddy. The guy who discovered gravitational waves in space and proved the Big Bang Theory to be true and the guy who makes Rob Ford jokes in the middle of the night.” While pointing to himself.

Netflix talks price increase

Netflix just announced that it will be soon raising the price of its online streaming service an extra $1-$2 per month from the current $7.99 monthly rate. The exact rate increase is still being discussed and decided on by the Netflix corporate executives. This is only for their DVD-less streaming Netflix service. Netflix states that the way the program works is that “For only $7.99 a month, you get unlimited movies & TV episodes instantly over the Internet to your TV or computer. There are no commercials, and you can pause, rewind, fast forward or rewatch as often as you like. It’s really that easy!” We have thousands of movies & TV episodes available to watch instantly right on your TV via a PS3, Wii, Xbox 360 or any other device that streams from Netflix, or to watch instantly on your computer.”

This price increase was previously tested in Ireland when Netflix earlier this year raised prices in Ireland by one Euro, current members though were locked into the €6.99 rate for two years. Netflix has learned a lesson or two about how to communicate pricing changes to customers. In 2011, when the company last announced a price hike, subscribers fled, the stock price sank and Reed Hastings, the company’s CEO, had to apologize to members. So now they are approaching this extremely sensitive topic in another way. According to their statement to shareholders “Our current view is to do a one or two dollar increase, depending on the country, later this quarter for new members only. Existing members would stay at current pricing (e.g. $7.99 in the U.S.) for a generous time period. These changes will enable us to acquire more content and deliver an even better streaming experience.” “We are approaching 50 million global members, but that is far short of HBO’s 130 million. We are eager to close the gap.”

This new rate hike would still keep the price of Netflix under the magic $10 mark, which is sort of the cutoff point for monthly subscriptions. I guess we will just have to see the exact increase when it happens soon. But for now, if you’ve been on the subscription fence about Netflix, maybe it’s time to sign up quickly to see if you can lock in the lower $7.99 monthly rate before the price hike happens.

Pharrell and Adidas unite for a “Happy” collection!

Pharrell, the Grammy winning singer and producer is now Adidas’ newest collaborator on their adidas Originals product line. Pharrell who is behind the worldly phenomenon and currently one of the most popular songs “Happy” will join Adidas with his own textile company Bionic Yarn which manufactures sewing yarn from recycled plastic bottles. Bionic Yarn is also partnering with “The Vortex Project” which is a global initiative to remove the plastic debris from various vortexes formed in the oceans around the world. According to the Vortex Project’s website, their goal is to “clean up shorelines and oceans, boost new technologies and turn ocean plastic into smart consumer products to create funding and awareness.” Including Pharrell’s quote “wear the responsibility for the oceans.”

Both sides feel great about the partnership, Dirk Schoenberger, the global creative director for Adidas’ sport style division stated “Williams is a pop-culture icon that never fails to inspire, not just through his musical talent and craft, but through his many other interests. He is the perfect fit for the multifaceted company that is Adidas.” According to Pharrell “Working with an iconic brand like adidas is such an incredible opportunity. From the classic track suit, to growing up in Virginia wearing Stan Smiths, adidas has been a staple in my life. Their pieces are timeless. This is an exciting partnership for both me and for Bionic Yarn.”

This will be the first time that Adidas has collaborated with a designer who had their own textile company as Pharrell does. Their previous collaborations include the likes of Yohji Yamamoto, and TopShop and others who currently produce Originals collections for Adidas like Opening Ceremony and Porsche Design. Adidas announced their partnership on March 27, 2014 via Twitter stating that “Pharrell gear drops in summer” and a teaser of the collection is visible on the adidas Originals YouTube channel.

In an interview with WWD Williams stated that “Adidas is giving me a great opportunity to develop products which I love and will also be using Bionic Yarn and is more of a partnership than a collaboration as we look to work together for the next few years,”. Pharrell also stated that “It’s my line so it comes from my heart and mind,” he said. “I’m taking this very seriously. [It’s for] basically everyone. [I’m] not doing this for any specific demographic; I hate being put in a category anyway.”

This is a new move for both Adidas and Pharrell in the sense that their collaboration or partnership as Pharrell calls it, is indirectly partnering with a global initiative to try and clean up the world’s ocean debris. Pharell is also working with G-Star denim and creating a denim that is made up of his Bionic Yarn material, and according to the Bionic Yarn website “G-Star and Bionic Yarn have joined forces to create a denim collection made in part with recycled plastic materials retrieved from the world’s oceans and shores. Available at G-Star Raw stores worldwide and online beginning Aug. 15.”

The Bionic Yarn webpage has two key phrases. One being “Stronger Thread. Greater Good” when explaining his yarn material and the other being “Let’s reap more from what we sew.” It’s not enough to just talk and preach about being environmentally and earth conscious, something has to be done about it. Pharrell is doing just that while building his own conglomerate empire. Doing good doesn’t have to come at an expense and now you can see how it can actually be profitable.

2014 Tribeca Film Festival is almost here !

Robert De Niro’s post 9/11 community combining film festival, the “Tribeca Film Festival” which is presented by AT&T will take place from April 16 – 27, 2014. It will be the 13th Annual event and the festival is not like any other major movie screening either. It’s a combination of Comic Con, a movie premiere, and panel discussions rolled into one. Anyone and everyone who has a love for film and the industry comes here to support. Including fans and regular movie goers, with Hollywood actors and actresses being involved as well.

This year the festival will again feature the Heineken “Green Room Sessions.” According to the TFF website “after each show, audiences will have the unique opportunity to mingle and talk with the creative people (directors, actors, producers and assorted crew members) behind the film in a venue near the theater.” You just have to bring your ticket stub from the corresponding screening and a valid ID. After all, it is sponsored by Heineken, so there will be beer there and you have to be 21 to be there too.

If you want to meet the major A-list celebrities then you will have to check out the “Tribeca Talks” series which is sponsored by HBO, Barnes & Noble and will feature discussions with director Ron Howard, Lee Daniels, Alec Baldwin, and Michael Douglas among many others. The program includes in-depth discussions with those various panelists so you will hear how they achieved their films, and what made everything happened among other behind the scenes type events.

April 21-26, 2014 will be part of the “Tribeca Innovation Week.” It will be a place for gamers, coders, hackers, screenwriters, futurists, directors, financiers and anyone who has a story to tell. One of the included events will be the “Disruptive Innovation Awards”. “Tribeca Film Festival and the Disruptor Foundation in association with Harvard Professor Clayton Christensen, father of disruptive innovation theory, presents its Fifth Annual Tribeca Disruptive Innovation Awards to recognize disruptors and disruption of major consequence across a broad section of traditional and non-traditional domains.” This event will take place on Friday April 25th at 11:00am, in the NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts.

One of the more unique concepts is the “Tribeca Hacks” event where according to the TFF website “for two days during the Tribeca Film Festival, established filmmakers will unite with innovative technologists and designers to imagine and invent new possibilities for storytelling in an increasingly mobile world. Join the participants and other Festival VIPs at an exclusive finale party to glimpse the future imagined via these groundbreaking creative collaborations.”

The best part of the event which of course is saved for last and towards the end of the festival. It’s called “Film For All Friday” and according to the festival’s press center “The 2014 Tribeca Film Festival (TFF) announces that AT&T, the new presenting sponsor, has created FILM FOR ALL FRIDAY – where individual tickets to all film screenings on Friday, April 25 will be FREE.” So go ahead and catch a movie, or take in the whole eleven day event. No matter how you do it, come out and support the local film community.

It’s a GOAL: FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014 Trophy Tour- The much anticipated football (Soccer) world cup!

The FIFA World Cup, a global event is falling upon the world again as it does every four years. Thirty-two of the highest skilled soccer countries in the world will battle it out starting this June. June 12, 2014 – July 13, 2014 is the month long event when the world soccer elite will showcase their skills and represent their respective countries. This time around the event will be hosted by Brazil, who is also the next summer Olympics host country. However, it’s all about the World Cup right now. Considered to be one of the favorites, as they always are historically having some of the best players to ever take the grass which include Pele, Ronaldo, and Ronaldinho. This time Brazil’s goal is to win it as the host country.

The World Cup Trophy is one of the most famous trophies in the entire world. According to FIFA.com “The authentic, one-of-a-kind FIFA World Cup Trophy is 36.8cm (14.5 inches) high, 6,175g (13.61 pounds) heavy, and made of 18-carat gold. The base contains two layers of semi-precious malachite while the bottom side of the Trophy bears the engraved year and name of each FIFA World Cup winner since 1974.” It’s not the biggest, nor the brightest, but it only gives you a chance at its glory once every four years, and not just anyone can try and win it, there are qualifiers to even get the chance.

But as tradition goes, before every World Cup the trophy takes a tour around the world, in its private Coca-Cola sponsored airplane. It will in total visit eighty-nine countries and take two hundred and sixty seven days to do so. The Trophy Tour began its journey in Rio de Janeiro on September 12, 2013. Departing from the famous Christ the Redeemer statue, the FIFA World Cup Trophy will travel around the world for nine months before returning to the country that will host the 2014 FIFA World Cup, which is Brazil. The total distance the trophy will travel during the tour will be 92,942 miles, more than three times the circumference of the earth.

At each stop, usually a player from that country’s soccer team will be present to welcome this iconic prize and fans will be able to take a close up picture of the authentic trophy that otherwise would be unattainable. They will also be able to have a chance to take their pictures and meet the official 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil Mascot, Fuleco because he too, will accompany the trophy on various stops throughout its journey. The trip has already spread the soccer and World Cup fever throughout the world with kids and adults getting into the spirit in every way they can. By coloring their faces and juggling soccer balls with the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Colosseum in Rome and the Red Square in Russia as backdrops.

The trophy is due to arrive in the United States on April 14th-16th, 2014 and April 18th-20th, 2014. Then it will return back to its starting point on April 21st, 2014 to its host country: Brazil.

Every four years the World Cup unites the soccer fans of the world for one goal. To cheer on their team, to hope and sometimes pray that their country, like in any international event of unity, sportsmanship, pride, and skill will bring home the ultimate prize. In this case, the one-of-a-kind 18K gold statuesque trophy that no one can ever take away. Only four years later they can try and claim it for themselves.

Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis: President Barack Obama

Most would agree that Zach Galifianakis is a funny man. Ok, you may not know him by name but, definitely his character in the hangover movies.  In his 18th episode of  Funny or Die, President Barack Obama sits down with Zach Galifianakis for his most memorable interview yet.  Life’s too short. We all need some sense of humor, don’t you think? But whats the point of it all? To promote the Affordable care act. Another creative commercial or informercial huh?  It seems to be working, we think.

Old Spice saying “Goodbye forever – I hope to never see you again” – A must watch hilarious video…

Not many brands are able to get the attention they yearn for. If a brand’s commercial goes viral accumulating over 1.6 million views within a day, you know they are doing something right or wrong perhaps? Either way, you are getting the attention and brand recognition and thats the point.  Old spice commercials seem to do a very good job getting our attention with some sense of humor, although sometimes over the top.  In this video featuring Terry Crews,  it show how saying “Goodbye forever—I hope to never see you again” to an old friend is so much easier now with the new Old Spice face-shaving machines.

Noah – opens in U.S. theaters March 28, 2014

The movie is based on the story of Noah’s Ark but this story is focused on the trials of building the Ark with the human element of fight and struggle between other humans and not just the struggles in building the vessel. It stars Academy Award winner Russell Crowe as Noah, Oscar winner Jennifer Connolly as Nameeh, Emma Watson plays the role of Il-La and Anthony Hopkins who is also an Academy Award winner stars as Methusela. Supposed to open in U.S. theaters March 28, 2014 it has been a very controversial movie from all angles. The director Darren Aronofsky wants everyone to go see it, and even cautioned the religious viewers calling Noah as “the least biblical biblical film ever made.” The reason behind that is that the story of Noah and the Ark is taught in a lot of different religions and is one of the first and most important stories about life, hard work, faith, trials and tribulations. That means that there will be groups of people that will watch it and take it as a literal meaning of the story of Noah, which is not what is supposed to happen. Hollywood of course puts a dramatic twist on a religious story and anytime religion is involved controversy will follow. The film is a Hollywood depiction about the story of Noah’s Ark so liberties will be taken in both the script, the scenes, and how the story is told for dramatic effect. That doesn’t mean however that the movie will not be a blockbuster in 2014. At the end of the day it is still just a movie whether you agree with the story line or not. Then decide what you would do differently if you were to make the movie yourself. Because that’s the debate that always ensues directly following us leaving the theater anyway.

Fun Pants

At this point, just about everyone has heard of Nantucket Reds, the famous symbols of Eastern privilege now a key element of preppy, Ivy League style across the country.  What is perhaps still unknown is just why Nantucket Reds, and their brightly colored fellows, have gained the status they enjoy.  Why do pants in faded pink command the discerning eye of old money?  The answer, at least in part, is that bright colors and outrageous patterns signify the dress of someone who doesn’t need to be sober in their tastes.  It’s a bit like Mark Zuckerberg coming to work in his sweat pants, though far more stylish.  Those who live solely on inherited wealth can afford to flaunt traditional standards of business dress or casual attire, as they will not be penalized for it the way lesser men would.

One way to take this devil-may-care aesthetic to the next level is to wear fun pants, available all year round in various colors and fabrics.  Fun pants are usually, though not always brightly colored; they can be chinos, corduroys, sometimes a more exotic fabric such as moleskin.  What distinguishes them is their embroidery: they are festooned with small prints stitched into the exterior of the pants.  These are called ‘critters’ traditionally, and they can take a variety of forms.  There are pants with ducks, anchors, turtles, lobsters, golf clubs, candy canes- the possibilities are endless, especially in the modern times.  You can find them in colors ranging from navy blue to bottle green, from nantucket red to sunflower yellow, so you’re sure to find a shade appropriate for your circumstances and the spirit of the season.

Fun pants are advanced style- this should be obvious.  Like the Eastern elites who initiated them, they should only be attempted if you have reached an unimpeachable point in your personal style.  The way you dress should be beyond reproach, and you must have the confidence to carry them off.  Keep your upper body simpler: opt for a solid shirt and either a navy blazer or a roughly textured sport coat, perhaps something in tweed.  You can be a bit more creative with your tie.  Again, confidence is key.  If you are going to echo the style of the Roosevelts and the Vanderbilts, you must have some of their swagger.

Jason Collins: Gay illustrated

“I’m a 34 year-old NBA center. I’m Black. And I’m gay, “says Jason Collins” to Sports Illustrated, (2013 p. 1). He is the first player in any major American team sport to come out as gay. He didn’t want to be the first to start the conversation but someone had to. The world is changing quickly as the LGBT community is gaining momentum and fervor. I for one am proud that he has come out and broken yet another stereotype surrounding the gay community; there inability to play sports unless it’s floating on ice in a glitter sequenced onesie.

Jason Collins like many others in the LGBT community feel like they have to hide who they are because society says they have to be a certain way. When he was younger he dated women and even got engaged. He thought it was only right for him to marry and raise kids.  Life is really too short to hide who you truly are on the inside. What helped Jason among many things to come out were the Boston Marathon bombings. Many lost their lives that day and things can change in an instant. The next breathe is never guaranteed.

Something that I like to live by constantly is the “Man in the Glass” test. You can go on and live your life everyday putting on a smile on and forcing happiness; however, every night when you get ready for bed and look at yourself in the mirror, what do you see?

The Man in the Glass- Literary Exercise

The Man In The Glass

When you get what you want in your struggle for self, and the world makes you king

for a day, just go to a mirror and look at yourself

and see what that man has to say.

Although there are others in life’s pathway whose judgment upon you must pass, the

fellow whose verdict counts most in your life

is the man staring back from the glass.

You may win all the medals and “snow” all the rest and think you’re a wonderful guy;

but the man in the glass says you’re only a fraud,

if you can’t look him straight in the eye.

He’s the one to please, after all’s said and done, for he’s with you clear up to the end.

And you’ve passed a most dangerous, difficult test

if the man in the glass is your friend.

You may fool the whole world down the pathways of years and get pats on the back as

you pass; but your final reward will be heartaches and tears, if you’ve cheated the man in the glass.

The ball literally is in the NBA commissioners hand and the whole community at large. This is an excellent opportunity to make a difference and pioneer change in National sports leagues in America. Make it okay to be who you are and also have a love for the game.
